154: I Will Make You
Well, that was interesting. We seriously had to jump through hoops of fire to secure HeyMercedes.com again. We received no warning that it was about to expire because the Hey Mercedes email account had been deleted. So we basically had to prove that we were who we were. Todd even had to photocopy his drivers license and fax it to the company. But it's all taken care of now, thankfully, and we can get on with our lives.
My life became about 30% more busy once I took over all of the press relations for Threadless. It's cool, I love being busy at work, it's just that the busier I am here, the less likely I would get home and hop right back on the laptop. But I'm adapting. in fact, I've written 5 new songs for Threadless next week and plan on looking at this massive project in a whole new light. Given that many of the songs have made their way into my sets and truthfully could just be another City On Film song, I think I'm going to start thinking of them that way. I mean, if I write 5-6 potential COF demos every week and get paid for it, wow, that is the life.
I'm playing tonight at Schubas. I'm playing next Friday in Milwaukee. I'm playing a secret show next Saturday somewhere. I'm playing a host of shows in Europe beginning June 9. I'm playing in Madison on July 20. I'm playing a host of shows in Australia beginning August 18. And i'm sure I'll play here and possibly there in between. It's so good for me. But like most things that are good for you, sometimes they don't go down easy.
What does that title mean? You'll never guess. I was in consideration to be a "coach" for an episode of that MTV show Made. A young man would like to be a rockstar. I had to laugh. They don't want me for this! I was never a rockstar nor will I ever be a rockstar as this kid wants to be a rockstar. I'm assuming this young man isn't interested in playing basements and touring/breaking down in vans from here to Albuquerque, so I would be horribly miscast. They need a coach who can help him with his makeup and his stage moves and his video presence. I can maybe help him learn to sing but shit, do you even have to know that to be a rockstar? Nope. So I said thanks but no thanks. They went with the singer of Yellowcard, which is a much better choice. Makes for better TV.
I'm looking forward to getting back on the road. Not touring so much can be a bummer. I just feel so inactive. So much so that I've joined a gym, a ping pong league, and a kickball league. No more fucking sitting around. Ride that swing and swing up.
