098 You Can't Please Anyone Anytime

At work early again. I'm a little miffed because i missed the Smart Quiz question this morning on Newsradio WBBM. And it was a Hitchcock one! When I heard that bit of info, i started dialing right away. What Hitchcock movie was set in Santa Rosa, CA, and involved a character known as the "merry widow strangler?" Dammit. I've seen that many times. I even had a film class in college that had a whole Hitchcock section! Luckily I couldn't get through to the station. It was Shadow Of A Doubt. Of course! Spoiler alert. At the end, i'm pretty sure the strangler, who has won the trust and compassion of everyone in the town, gets pushed off of a train. Dammit. I'll never forgive myself for that one. I could have won a $150 gift certificate for Alex's Steakhouse. I'm sure they must have something i can eat there!

My favorite Hitchcock movie by far is Rope. The plot is quite outrageous. Two college students strangle a friend and then have a dinner party immediately afterwards while the dead friend's body is in a trunk in the living room. They even serve food off of it. Quite morbid, i'd say, especially for 1948! Jimmy Stewart is incredible as the dinner guest that slowly unravels the mystery. You know, they are making so many remakes of shitty movies lately, they should really give Rope a go. It wasn't as popular as Psycho, so people wouldn't be inclined to sneer at how the original was so much better and blah blah.
