I ran into Mary Lou Lord at Underbar one night after she'd played Schubas. I recognized her from across the room and decided I had to talk to her...although I didn't want to freak her out. The following occured.
Me: Hi...I'm sorry to bother you...but are you Mary Lou Lord?
MLL: Yeah.
Me: Oh cool. I thought it was you...I just wanted to tell you that I really like your music and I love your 'Live City Sounds' record.
MLL: Cool thanks. So, wait...did you just recognize me or something?
Me: Yeah, I saw you from across the bar.
MLL: Wow! That's so cool! No one ever recognizes me...got a cigarette?
Me: No, but I could get you one.
MLL: That's okay...
Me: Well, nice meeting you!
MLL: You too, bye. (goes to find drink).
YES - it was just that exciting. But I have to say it was really cool that she was so happy to be recognized. I mean, I think of her as being kind of a big indie star. You'd think it'd happen more often.
