Robert: James Brown. I think it was a trivia question somewhere that asked, "How many of James Brown's top 40 songs contained the word 'popcorn' somewhere in the lyrics?" And the answer was something ridiculous like 17. We've got some big big plans oh yes yes we do. Expect some announcements within the next few weeks. Or if you come to one of the shows in March, I could always whisper it in your ear. March 4, 2002
Robert: 1. hey what's the worst that could happen i am in a great mood and i am writing so this is something new sort of i want to conquer the world is playing loudly in the distance and that's no poetic cheating it really is! 2. thursday rocked it as usual even though geoff was sick (again! yet he assured me that it was just a coincidence. he's really not always sick - what does that kid eat) dan - they all say what up and tucker apologizes for not calling you back he doesn't call anyone back. 3. i'm rebelling against classic punctuation. i,m really just being lazy' 4. the reputation rocked it as well - you should go see them they are hitting the road - it is elizabeth elmore formerly of the band sarge and it's pretty gosh darn powerful - and (i'm not sure if he's going on the tour but) they had an excellent trumpet player. he made me think of a great project for 2003. 5. i'm telling this now, so i hope i don't forget... i'm going to learn how to play the trumpet. from jan 1 2003 to jan 1 2004 it's something i've decided to do before i turn 29 in june 2004. so basically i've got 8 months to find a horn. hopefully the boys won't mind me blowing into it. dime. 6. the song "step right up" by tom waits is worth your time! i have been up for 11 hours already today. now i,m just plain loopy( 7. if you plan on seeing kind of like spitting with john vanderslice anytime soon, you may want to know that (t)he(y) will not be playing - ben has left the tour in tennessee and is doing some solo shows here and there - i'm trying to set up a show for him in chicago / but it's got to be soon and i'm not having much luck... here's what i'm looking at: wednesday march 13 - me (acoustic) and him (kind of like spitting (acoustic)). does anyone have any ideas? 8. i found a lot of writings that i did circa 1994 today. interesting...
Robert: It's 6:30 AM, and there's no earthly reason for me to be up this early. Packing? Downloading CCR? Hasn't poor John Fogerty been ripped off enough? I mean, didn't he get sued for trying to re-record one of his old songs that someone else had the rights to? I'm confused. It's early. Who is this Hawksley Workman guy? Who sings that song that goes "I got a letter from the government the other day, picked it up, read it... they wanted me for the army or whatever, picture me giving a damn i said never..." That's a hot jam. And the owner is a mental midget with the IQ of a fencepost... - The Piano Has Been Drinking, Tom Waits. Speaking of hot jam. I like toast as much as anyone, but not for breakfast, dinner, and tea... - I Don't Need This Pressure Ron, Billy Bragg. Owen, if you're interested in Billy Bragg - get "Workers Paytime". You won't be disappointed. And if you've been waiting on Mr. Waits, "Small Change" all the way. I'm checking email. (Someone had a question about HM tabs. If you have any specific questions, I'll be happy to help.) And I will soon tell of the Thursday show, and the Reputation show. |
