Robert: (written at 8 am) Robert Nanna Bloggin on a Lazy Saturday. Ahhh. Yesterday was EggInTheHole, today is EggoHomestyle. Good morning. 1. I'm surprised I woke up at all. You see, last night I had a terrible time trying to fall asleep. The usual stuff just wasn't working (see #7), so I had to bust out the big guns... Now, TFMIC used to be plagued by sleepless nights. That was until one night, after some vicious tossing and turning at a friend's house, he was instructed to take a little something called Kava Kava Root. Then after laying backdown in a state of restful bliss, he "proceeded to lift off the bed and end up flat up against the ceiling." Mysteriously, a large bottle of the herb appeared the next day on the refridgerator... So last night, after doing the violent toss-n-turn for 2 hours, it was my turn to try the root. I have to admit that expectations were high. (Higher than the ceiling? Har.) 2. I swear to you, my upstairs neighbors were stomping on the ground - at least 4 of them - at 5 AM - marching in a line, singing "All I Want to Do is Make Love to You" by Heart. I wish I was kidding. 3. New to the pod: "Love Plus One" by Haircut 100. "Tap the Bottle" by Young Black Teenagers. "All of Me" by Dinah Washington. "Count Five or Six" by Cornelius. "All I Want to Do is Make Love to You" by Heart. Just kidding on that last one. 4. Every now and then, TFMIC will grab the Kava Kava Root bottle, look at me, and say "Y'wanna party?" Hey, they don't call him TFMIC for nuttin. 5. So I'm back in bed, post-Kava consumption and nothing significant seems to be happening. I'm almost at the ceiling, but half of my body is still hanging off sorta like an imaginary ledge. And for some reason, Billie's right up there wiith me. Did I mistakenly lace her Kitten Chow? And then I realize I'm sleeping. And then I have a nightmare! Seriously. I was in a swimming pool enclosed in glass and a huge tsunami came and destroyed the whole thing... Stupid... Discovery... Channel. 6. They cannot get a Trader Joe's built here in the city soon enough. The veggie bacon prices at Jewel Osco are redonkeylips. (Last word, courtesy of TFMIC circa all-the-time) 7. Counting sheep, painting a doghouse, thinking of hockey, jumping down stairs, changing guitar strings, creating new letters for the alphabet, calculating the distance from Hawaii to Norway, thinking of words that should be acceptable in Scrabble but aren't (like raygun)... 8. The whole Kava Kava story was 75% fabrication, so please don't be upset when you don't get the same results. Side effects include nausea, sore eyes, ceiling burn, and gravity loss. And if I was still on the ceiling at 5 AM, I would have knocked on it and pleaded for them to stop the Heart marching... 9. And yes, The Heart Marching was the name of my failed romantic comedy screenplay. 10. Dan! If you are reading this! You should really apply more sunscreen!
TBELL: Blogging at the public libarary? Sad is'nt it? It's me day off and i'm glad to be here on a computer that is actually pretty quick. It's not too bad when you smuggle in a mug of coffee, plus i'm rocking the new A Camp cd that i can't get enough of lately.. Nina Persson with mostly Mark Linkous (Sparklehorse) and drums and guitars courtesy of Shudder to Think's Kevin March and Nathan Larson. Whoo hoo! Speaking of the Cardigans.. if anyone has a burned copy (or otherwise) of that new 'Other Side of the Moon' IMPORT lying around with my name on it (and would like to send it to me) please email! Bob, I'm not pleased on your list you posted on February 11th, circa-whenever you actually nerdily wrote it down, 'Chemical Wire' should be higher than # 38. Got it? Speaking of Firehose, you might remember them covering the Daniel Johnson song 'Walking the Cow' on their LP 'Flyin' the Flannel' back in 1991 (also played live early 90's by the fabulous two person bass-guitar-only-band Dos (featuring Mike Watt and his wife Kira Roessler from Black Flag).. well it's right here on this A Camp cd, done very well mind you, also along with a fantastic cover of The Replacements "Rock N' Roll Ghost" clocking in at track # 12. Bob, always wondered is your housecat named after a Miss Holiday? February 13, 2002
Robert: Haven't you ever heard of the healing power of blogging? 1. I will again quote the most reverend HMS by proclaiming "It's a brand new day!" Mark Kozelek is mumbling out some sweet AC/DC. The coffee is warm and has just the right amount of vanilla silk. Morning incense rocking. Toast at the ready. Even the carpal tunnel has been afraid to rear its ugliness. It's a shame Billie is elsewhere. She'd surely enjoy this lazy, yet busy day. 2. Busy. That's right. Lots to do. I took yesterday off to concentrate on non-blog writing. Rewarding. But now it's all business. And I've never been more ready. 3. I got the word from the P's that everything in the basement is fair game to sell... which is a relief. Apparently, the Allstate Arena hosts a huge flea market in the parking lot every Sunday of the summer. And one Sunday, I will be right there with my stand. Who wants Hot Wheels? Get em while they're hot. wheels. 4. And now Tommy Gun is on and it's time to make more coffee. 5. As for news... we'll have some announcements very soon! How exciting... I'll be back. 6. Remember: From the most frustrating situations come the most powerful inspirations. So next time you're feeling awful, you know what to do. February 11, 2002
dan: you should be counting the ways of toil'et tatatoochie.. this could very well be my last blog form the United States for I am leaving tomorrow on a jet plane destined for puerto rico..the island of sweet air and warm sun the isle of denile (not the river) ..the said 'rich port'. I will explore the depths of the famous rain forest el yunque and forever be lost in the gentle breeze of the virgin islands...when I come back, If I do, only then, only then I say, will you hear about my adventures in touring around historic old San Juan... God Bless
Robert: I can't help it. 1. I come from a family of packrats. I'm at my parents house right now, helping to clean out the basement. And it's a chore... Just like them, I can't bear to throw things away. Sure, my old Hot Wheels cars are rusty and a small percentage of them still have all four wheels, but man are they awesome. I'm never getting rid of those! ... You see? ... At what point do you try and sell / throw away all of that old junk? I'm not sure if this is normal behavior, but I counted at least TEN full cans of coffee in a basement closet. Ten. Did we ever think that coffee would be so hard to come by? Did we ever think that coffee would never be on sale again? ... I also found a big box of these matchbooks, but they're not really matchbooks, they are "tees and spotters" for golf, courtesy of some old bank. I can't think of a time where anyone in my immediate family played golf. Why do we have these? Should I throw them away? Or should I save them in a box until they become some priceless heirloom of sorts. Hell, if I save them, in 50 years I can donate them to one of the bank's branches so they can put them in a glass case and give me a little notecard with props: courtesy of. Is it really worth it? "Ooooh. Tees and spotters in a matchbook? They were so fucking crazy back then, weren't they honey? It's a damn good thing that this Mr. Nanna (of course pronounced wrong) saved them for so long in a box along with broken Hot Wheels." 2. We also save every last box that comes through the door. When the box famine of 2004 arrives (and you know it will), people will look at us with astonishment and envy. 3. I also found, amongst some old papers, a Top 75 list that I made a long long time ago. I even had a column to show the positions of the songs from the previous week (I'll spare you that). See if you can figure out what year (or what week?) this was hip: (75) Surfin' Anarchy - D.I. Let's see... what else should i be doing... |
