Robert: 87 Velouria - Pixies We've got ourselves a barnburner a-brewin this evening. But first, we blow up balloons.
dan: Jason priestly, is it cold outside today.. this is autumn..pumpkins, corn stalks, mums, hot cider, all that schtuff...I have the pleasure of having a slight light headed feeling and I feel like I need to stretch my eyes or somethin'..oh gawd somebody that is getting married just walked passed the front of the store with her hair all done up and a vail on walkin' around like ..'get out of my way I'm getting married' ... it's too cold to get married today why the hell I'm talkin' about that i don't know.. so I get into work after playing tag with this white trash guy driving a white grandam..tough guy shaved head type smokin' menthols..he didn't have anything on the soob..this totally cool audi had somethin' on me though those things take off like they're on a rubber band or somethin'.. I had some time to kill so I walked down to the farmers market to see what they had..I think I mentioned what they had before..anyway my old highschool friend told me the coolest thing he ever did was walk around the farmers market after a night of LSD..cool man..way to go..I'm here till' 1pm, I've got a wedding gift to pack up (it's a blender) and some small boxes, I've applied some gap perfume on my person so as to not smell like a bum I did shower today, I just like being clean anyone else like being clean..? my coffee is gone already I guess thats what 45 minutes of driving does I'm currently working on a banana..it's a good source of potassium.. later we are going down to chi-town for a rockin' rock show..I gotta cruise.. Robert: 88 Bottle of Smoke - The Pogues Recorded 9/24 at Apartment #2, Chicago IL. Spider by Shortall. Why am I up this early? Oh yeah. To go to that dentist appointment I missed last Friday... stupid metro show... I'll let you know how it goes. My mouth hurts already. October 4, 2001
Robert: Perhaps I should clarify. I'm reigning king of the dartboard located to my immediate right. Todd holds the Vox crown. But those darts are wussy, anyway, so that shouldn't count. Surely I jest.
TBELL: Boggle i agree Bob. You rock at that. 'King' of the electric dartboard though? Surely you jest.. and Don't call me Shirley..
TBELL: Owww!!! I'm sore. Muscles I did'nt even know I had are sore. Curse you Damon for dragging me out on that golf course! 18 holes in about 6 hours. My lower back is killing me, and why are my thumbs sore? It was fun though, getting the dirty looks from the old timers out there being totally serious... Thankfully our discouragement in playing so terribly was made up by the beautiful day we had, nearly empty course, and... the golf cart. It does'nt matter how bad of a hole you had (dime) as long as you can climb into that cart between holes and skid on over to the next one. Damon did most of the driving (if thats really what you want to call it..), I did most of the "grabbing of the steering wheel trying to re-direct him into obstacles". I still owe Damon one for ramming the Port-a-Potty while I was in there. Plus, you get to drive that little cart around and drink high life out of plastic bottles.. at the same time if you want! Only in America. We also had to go back and get my #1 wood around the 15th. We discovered it was missing after driving to the next hole. The sneer on the players faces behind us when he hand it to me (it was lying in the middle of the course) after I drove back looking for it was to die for. It had probably fallen out of the cart with Damons 'driving' or i might have just accidentally left it there.. funny.. Listening to Seaweed Spanaway. Yes, there would be a link to it if i could find one on the internet.. The 'lost' record I like to call it.. the one on Hollywood Records after leaving Sub Pop..The last fantastic record they did in my book. Probably due to the fact that this is the last album long time drummer Bob Bulgrien played on, he was awesome.. Unfortunately my used vinyl copy skips a little on Crush Us All.. Boo!! What is weird is that my 'mouse' has started squeaking the last few days.. Guess they don't call them mouses fer nuthin'.. I think it's just time to retire the little guy..
Robert: 89 A Shaggy Dog Shames its Owner - Kind of Like Spitting Coffee brewin'. Jumpin' in the shower and the blood starts pumpin'... You know, last week I almost bought a 45 (with full picture sleeve) of Dolly Parton's classic hit, 9 to 5 (which came in at a respectable #432 on the list). It would have been a perfect addition to that old rickety jukebox that I'll forever be working on... But there was a huge crack in the vinyl. Not a scratch, but a visible split. So, being at a thrift store, I put it right back among the good records. Why did I do that? Who would actually buy a cracked record? Should I have alerted my congresspersons? I would also like to announce, that I am no longer just the king of the Sportcraft Electric Dartboard. I am now also the king of Boggle. There is none higher. And so on and so forth. October 3, 2001
dan: what makes people break into your shed and take shit..! I know those low-life-no-job-having-losers are watching to see what time I leave cause I would hear that shit at night..plus I have my spot light all ready..last time someone broke into my stuff was about a year ago so I guess I can expect to see them again in a year..it would be my luck if I caught a scum bag I'd probably get sued cause I roughed them up a little..remember that guy up north that rigged his hunting cabin with a shot-gun because it kept getting broken into..? Well, he's still in jail..that ain't right..? I don't wanna be in jail..so I put 1 1/2" screws in the latch instead of the whimpy ace screws that were in there..nothing got stolen because everything that was in the locked up shed was locked up..maybe I should lock the shed to the ground..ya know that bothers me, at least they didn't cut my registration sticker off my license plate again..those plastic protectors are nice..it's all little stuff to inconvenience me and no one likes standing in line at the DMV for a stupid sticker cause some loser on crack cut it off.. later-
Robert: 90 Accidents Will Happen - Elvis Costello Recorded 10/02/01 here. Chicago IL I just wrote the theme song for a comedy short. Yikes. $86? That's a bit outrageous, ay? October 2, 2001
dan: keep chasin' those flies gretts...you'll get'em.. it's too friggin' nice out to be inside like this..it's torture I tell ya..torture. I think a nice long bike ride will be in store and maybe a washin' of the pooch when I get home..boring as hell here, think I'll read the paper..oh yeah..yippy..or I could go and kill some flies with notorious.. Am I going loopy or does korbel and coke go good together..call me crazy but if I live where I live a should be drinkin' brandy anyway to fit in, at least a little... "excuse me, holmes...what it is...can you tell me how to get back onto the freeway"
TBELL: Good day! A sunny one at that. Listening to Sam Prekop for some reason, I think he's mellowing me out a little more than I need right now, especially after following this spunky little gem. Maybe the new Superchunk is in order? It's been staring at me since I bought it yesterday afternoon here on my desk. Heard it's pretty good.. Checked out almost all the special features on An American Werewolf in London last night, one of my all time favorite horror films. The extra stuff was worth the wait. Interviews with John Landis, Rick Baker, a behind the scenes, production stills and storyboards, and I'm saving the commentary (with David Naughton and Griffin Dunne) for this evening! Whoo Hoo! All you long time blog readers probably remember my freak-out when I found out this was coming out this month. Remember last spring, when I was trying to hunt down a reasonable priced original out of print copy on ebay?? I remember it like it was yesterday.. sigh.. Speaking of great DVDs.. If you're even remotely a fan of Christopher Guest, get the new Waiting for Guffman DVD that came out in August, first time available on DVD and lotsa extras! Man, sometimes I feel like I should get some kind of discount at amazon, etc.. I'm a sucker..
Robert: Just got this email, so I figured I'd answer it here: "I was browsing ebay and i saw this. How do you feel that someone is selling japanese imports of your yet to be released new full length before it is even released?" And here's my take. If someone was selling CDR's or promotional copies before it's release date, then we'd have something to be concerned about. The fact of the matter is: it has been released, which means that (for outrageous import prices) ANYONE can get it. And that means anyone can resell it, too. If you want to pay upwards of 30 dollars for it, be my guest. Just know that you can get it for much much cheaper in 3 weeks. Also, the album had to get remastered for Japan, and IMHO the domestic release sounds much better. And as for those bonus tracks... One will be released on an upcoming Vagrant sampler, and the other one will be included in an EP that we hope to release early next year... But... I understand the collectibility of such an object, and being a former "collector" of such items, I can't really complain. Stay tuned for a slew of announcements in the upcoming weeks, including tour craziness and a new website thing!
Robert: 91 Je N'en Connais Pas La Fin - Jeff Buckley Recorded 9/19/01 at the Bloomington Domino Tournament Center How do you cover a Jeff Buckley song? Or rather a Jeff Buckley cover of Edith Piaf? In my case, you just suck it up and do the best you can with your parameters. As will be explained in the long overdue "explanation" phase of this operation, I did all of this stuff pretty much in one take. Luckily most of the songs so far have been a breeze, chord-wise. This one wasn't. And there's many more to come... Well, we'll just plow right through them, I guess. Hope it isn't too excruciating. I have a phone line. They came at exactly 4:05 to plug in their phone, get a dial tone, and promptly ask, "so what is the problem, exactly?" This would lead me to believe that dumb old Ameritech actually came through, albeit a week late. Now I hope to never have to deal with them again. Got a busy day ahead of me. Going to the post office. Finishing up Operation Apartment Disinfect. And I hope to lay down 11, yes 11 songs today. Just in time to hit the town. In style. October 1, 2001
Robert: Expect some crazy news coming down the wire regarding our Nov 13 - Dec 17 US (yes, again!) tour... soon. You wouldn't even believe it.
Robert: 92 Fuck You Aurora - Alkaline Trio Both today's & yesterday's song recorded 09/22/01 at Apartment #2, Chicago IL Still no phone. Expecting a visit from the powers that be sometime between 4 and 8 pm. Which means I'll have to cancel my dentist appointment. Oh darn.
TBELL: Good morning everybody. Lazy monday.. got to get some laundry done. Today is the day that the test pressing arrives at my house for everynight fire works.. gotta hang around all day until it arrives. It's got to get the OK from someone today so everything stays on schedule, and that someone being me: The critical vinyl junkie. Listening to the Grifters. I've been on a Dave Shouse kick lately.. and that ain't a bad thing.. Bob, where's your song today? September 30, 2001
TBELL: Home back safe from our little jaunt around the midwest. Arrived home from our shows this week about.. 9 1/2 hours ago.. played our last show outside (brrrr!) in South Bend, Indiana last night then came home to Milwaukee.. the drive was'nt bad.. did it in about 2 and a half hours with a cup of coffee and the Cardigans. It was definately good to see Burning Airlines this week. Do they keep getting better and better? Is that possible? Ben is a nice addition. Listening to side two of Raise. A little belated birthday present from my good friend Roy. He knows I've been looking for a vinyl copy for awhile. Thanks Rae Bae! Time to relax for a bit and enjoy the day before rendezvousing and unloading the van. Ugh!
Robert: 93 Karma Police - Radiohead In a cruel ironic twist of fate, Damon hits a Mercedes with our minivan Saturday morning. |
