101 The Weaker Soldier - Palace Brothers

Not exactly a rousing rally cry for Rock Star. Maybe this means: wait for the video or the DVD. Maybe they just cut out all the good parts...I may be seeing Wet Hot American Summer tonight, which i hear is aces. I'll tell you bout it later, jack.

Tomorrow is the day. The top 100. Oh boy.

Bob, I believe you're referring to my constant bark on tour from Living after Midnight..

I took the city 'bout one A.M, loaded, loaded
I'm all geared up to score again, loaded, loaded
I come alive in the neon light
That's when I make my moves right..

Thanks to my big brother i am a closet Judas Priest fan..

Gotta cup of Alterra Breakfast Blend in front of me. Cats are still a little freaked out and hiding in the bedroom cause I used the vacuum this morning.

Velocity Girl is politely pumping the jams. Good sunny day music for sure..

Review:

Rock Star was pretty bad. Ugh. Besides seeing all of the familiar rock faces from decades ago (Zakk Wylde, Blas Elias), Mark Wahlberg just seems to dissapoint me lately. Jennifer Aniston (though I was waiting any second to see Fat Monica and/or Chandler pop up or see Joey Tribbiani as a roadie somewhere eating a sandwich), was actually descent in the role of the girlfriend/manager if you could shake off her Rachel character. Typical plot, bad rock moments, 80's rock soundtrack and reference to Ratt at one point... barely entertaining and I thought several times they where trying to bite on another rock film lately that succeeded where this one fails. I give it a C-.

Kudos and props for Dan Keehn for getting us to the theater on time. We where running a little late at first but he made up the time quickly in the soob.

Yes, Bob. Cats can see ghosts. Where ya been?

first-of-all I had the pleasure of going thru a drive thru window to get some food; and as I pulled up to the window there was this girl who looked exactly like conan o'brien but in a female form..Wierd..needless to say I couldn't eat my lunch..
I was like, Conan..? you know..
rockstar was ok..the thing that really bothered me was the fact that I hadn't eatn' dinner yet but managed to have a few beers.. imagine that and found myself at a bar before the whole show started trying to round up choice..so I found her and her sister re-hashing old times or something.. then went over to todd's to have yet another beer and headed off to the show..the soob held everybody just fine and still had some turbo left in her to squack the tires a bit..pressed for time I held down the pedal a little more than usual..got to the theatre and guess what..NO corn, NO soda, No nothin' they shut everything down..I know Damon wass pissed he couldn't get his candy groove on..so we went..'down and to the right' to our seats which could've been any seat as there was nobody in the joint..so I sat down and had to pee right away and the only thing I could think of was a nice juicy burger to satisfy my hunger pains..thanks sheConan..so all in all the movie was something that I would rather rent on dvd and sit at home and watch just so I can eliminate and eat whenever I want to..not to mention the wonderful feature of fast forward...

102 Greenland Whale Fisheries - The Pogues

Could it be? Only 102 days left in the year? And only 2 short days until I start embarrassing myself by uploading cover songs? Actually, I'm pretty happy with the way things are going. I'm going to make up a separate page for them sometime next week, with an explanation, disclaimer, and all that free jazz. (Even though, the actual countdown begins Sunday. How exciting.)

I expect a full review of Rock Star, Todd. Especially considering your previous experiences. You know, singing for that Judas Priest cover band in high school...

And now... a full review of my last 2 nights here in Bloomington IL. Night 1. Drank, watched The Family Guy (which was actually pretty funny), watched some karaoke (which was actually pretty crappy. I got the usual "bob, you should go up there" business... hey what can i say. they had no steely dan and no "rio"), played darts with the Panaphobes, won every game... Night 2. Drank, ate a Chili's black bean burger (which was actually quite tasty), played more darts with the Panaphobes, won every game ... i have to admit that Zach damn near hustled us all ("So what's the object of this game?" "Ooops. I hit a triple twenty. Is that good?" ... or something like that.) And then to top it all off, I got the high score on the Galaga game. 99,000! When will my luck run out?

Possibly very soon... once i start recording some songs today. My throat isn't feeling too peachy. But what can I do? I'm on a strict schedule here.

Go Billie Go! Attack that blanket! Get it!

Who up in this piece thinks that cats can see ghosts?

And one last thing... I've been told to "casually announce" that the Robert Nanna/Elizabeth Elmore split 7"/CDEP is now available at Troubleman Unlimited. We'll have a bunch to sell at our upcoming shows... But a fair warning: don't let the name of the record label deceive you. They are pretty gosh darn limited. Especially the vinyl.

an emergency stop I smelt the last ten seconds of life
I crashed down on the crossbar
and the pain was enough to make
a shy bald buddist reflect and plan a mass murder

who said i lied to her?

Listening to the Smiths. Trying my best to get better. Sucking down the Herba Tussin, got a mug steeping now... with honey of course..

Thought I'd chime in and say hello to all the glorious nerds like myself who keep up with this here blog. There are plans for the crew to go see Rock star tonight. Dan Keehn and Choice in the hiz-ouse. Damon and Marn in the hiz-ouse. Me and Miss Katie in the hiz-ouse. Shweeht. Showing @ 9:55 tonight, full review tomorrow.

103 New Amsterdam - Elvis Costello

Well, it seems as though song number 100 will land on Sunday. But who really reads the blog on Sunday, right? No matter. The plan is being put into action, weekend or no weekend... I do have a good bit of work yet to do. Pardon me while I tend to it...

Hey! We're a "blog of note". We thank you.

So as the days get to be easier to handle I can't help but think about how I could benefit from keeping a firearm in my house..The only thing I have in my house for protection right now is my German shepherd appropriately named 'gretta' aka.,gretts, baby g, notorious g.r.t,and grill, as in ' come here grill..good grill..etc..she's good when she barks at strangers and such...the other weapon I have is a WWII machete..now I've thought about how to use that thing if need be and I can't help but get grossed out with a picture of me slashing some strangers arm off and all the blood in my house so I figure I'll just reach out and poke the perpetrator a little, sound good..?

104 About Three Dreams - Shudder to Think

"They bail the jellyfish from the boat... It's the only way to keep them from stinging the tourists..." If the lifeguards at Pensacola Beach only heeded this lyric before I ran into the water like gangbusters and ran out feeling like I had 1000 bee stings all over my body. "It will only sting for about 15 minutes," they said. Sure, no problem... I laid on my towel, face up, moaning in pain, mentally clicking off the seconds, and hearing kids splashing around. Are they immune?

Upon recollection, i'm sure i was rattling off clicks much faster than real time, which explains why the process seemed to last about a half hour. I am reminded of getting a shot of novocaine when I was a child for something or other. The doctor said it would only hurt for about 10 seconds. Hence I took the liberty of shouting out a countdown for anyone within a 2 mile radius... I was at 10 and he was still at 3! And I'm pretty sure that sneaky bastage counted 4 twice!

It seems as though everybody has got post-tour sickness, me included. It's nothing too threatening though. No viral pneumonia. Just some coughing and a sore throat. So if I sound weird on the first 10 or so songs of the countdown, you know why.

I will be dragged kicking and screaming to "Family Guy" night at the Panaphobic compound. I have never watched the show. In fact I've avoided it like peas and green beans. They tell me it's good. They post all the good lines on their bloggy blog. I suppose I'll be the judge...

The Momento DVD is sitting to my immediate left. I will be watching it this week. First time. So please stop recommending it! ... I also saw Nurse Betty, which I found entertaining but confusing. If you expect a light hearted romp, you couldn't have it any more wrong. I was disturbed by Your Friends and Neighbors and In the Company of Men... Neil Labute is now 3 for 3. At least the guy realizes the genius that is Aaron Eckhart... Also, Greg Kinnear and Renee Zellweger shine... And some more kudos for employing Crispin Glover.

Time to record some cover songs. What else am I going to do during the day in this dirty old town besides listen to the news and annoy a kitten?

Blog? What is that? It's almost been that long... I feel I need to re-learn the system. Ugh.

Finally home from what seems like forever on tour, not in a bad way mind you. Maybe because of the extremes of touring when it's 110 degrees in July in the west to getting home back to Milwaukee and having to wear a jacket everywhere I go. Not a bad thing. Autumn is my favorite, and after all it's September already. Where did the summer go? Being on the road when all of the NYC/WTC stuff went down just made it seem even more surreal.. maybe thats what made those last few days of tour seem so stretched.

Listening to side 2 of the new Strokes record. My cat is in the window.

Did laundry today. Wussed out and dropped 30 bucks to get it the ol' fluff and fold way. The hell if i'm going to spend my first day back sitting at the Soap Opera I (or II it's your pick..) waiting through four humongous loads. Never fret, I threw in a few bath towels with the stinky tour clothes for good measure.

Did a little emailing to old friends today also. Sent a little note to our friends Hot Rod Circuit who should be well in the middle of recording their new record. All I can tell you is that the words "ugly ass face" appeared in the text of the email somewhere..

Hopefully I'll be back in full swing soon, I'm feeling a cold on the rise courtesy of germs from Damon. Leave it to him to get sick the last day of tour.. This only means one thing to you fine folks: More relentless bed-ridden dumb rants from yours truly. Stay tuned.

105 Mountain Song - Jane's Addiction
106 Fall on Me - R.E.M.
107 The Promise - When in Rome
108 Guitar and Video Games - Sunny Day Real Estate

I'm in Bloomington, IL. I'm hanging with a kitten named Billie, eating Special K with vaniila soymilk and choking down some lukewarm leftover coffee. It's not exactly your typical home-at-last scenario, but it will do just fine for the next few days. I've got so much to catch up on... Yet, I'll be coming atcha every day this week. And hopefully fulfilling my promise concerning the top 100 songs, now a mere 5 days away!

Some news tidbits: the Everynight Fire Works album will be released on October 23! Hilarious how the date jumps around so much, isn't it. Ha. And i'll say it again. Ha... I put up a slew of new tour dates, so that's pretty exciting... and there is word coming down the line of a possible November tour. Wow.
