Robert: 115 1330 Oak 1995 - Kind of Like Spitting At the hotel in Arlington watching Comedy Central... We're all pretty excited about the show tonight because we'll be reunited with a healthy smattering of personalities from that little old Vagrant tour... gotta run. More to come, as always. Robert: Kicking it. Backstage at the TLA in Philly. If I can find a place that sells padded envelopes and if i can find a (somewhat) nearby post office, there will be a mass merch mailing going on up in this piece tomorrow morn... I'd like to give a shout out to the Double Diner just north of Baltimore for some lovely service and making my first real "eggwhites" experience a happy and healthy one. I dove into Word Freak, and i have to tell you, I'm not half as bad as some of these characters described. Memorizing all the acceptable 2 and 3 letter words? Rack Balancing? Just let me put the ball in the hole...
Robert: 116 Iodine - Jawbox Only 17 days until we break the top 100. I'm so excited and i just can't hide it. September 6, 2001
Robert: 117 For Me This is Heaven - Jimmy Eat World You can believe it or not, but I created this list, my top 365 favorite songs on January 1, 2001. It was on that day that I decided to put this song at number 118... way before I even knew that we'd be touring with Jimmy Eat World... but you know, it's just one in many little coincidences that haunt me every now and again. See also: perplex See also: plague I'm reading Choke by Chuck Palaniuk. I'm liking it so far and I'm about halfway through it. It's my first sit down with the man. After that, I may venture into Word Freak, a gift I received in Boston... a book about the rock em sock em world of competitive Scrabble. I'll let you know how that goes. I just woke up. Manhattan hotel. A few blocks from Times Square. And you know what I'm really excited about? Food. New York is the hands down champion for anytime anywhere anykind food... and I love it. Near our show in Brooklyn, I dined at a Japanese joint that had so many great stuff on the menu, I ordered 2 entrees, so that I could eat one later! First entree: a smattering of delicious veggie hand rolls. Second: a tofu teriyaki masterpiece with vegetables... Genius... The next day (which sadly was mostly spent at the bland Newark Airport) I enjoyed a jumbo not dog at the Squeeze Bar, and then when we rocked into Manhattan, Todd and I walked to the famed Veg City Diner, where I had a TLT sandwich with fries (the first T = tofu bacon. yum.) ... I think I ate a little too much, actually, because it was kiind of weighing me down during the show... Yesterday, we hightailed it to a closer Veg City Diner locale for round 2. I wanted the "meatloaf" but since they were all out, I settled for the Pasta NoBolognese with Garlic Bread, along with some Mushroom Barley soup, and we all dug into the Chicken MockNuggets. Amazing. And then last night, we discover that right across the street from our hote - Zenith: Asian Vegtarian Cuisine ! So, we headed right over there for some more delicacies. We split a chef's appetizer dish, and I ordered a combo: I forgot the name of the first entree (Glorious something something), but the second was called Vegetarian Quilt. Both were unreal. We then headed over to the Empire State Building, all touristlike, and went up to the top to meet Meg Ryan. Afterwards we had some drinks at the Broadway Club in Times Square. Whew. But what about the shows, Bob? Well... I think the 3 hours sleep worked in our favor that first night in Boston. We were a little loopy, but so psyched to be playing such a packed show. And to clarify: some people think that a kid up front got inadvertently smaked with a guitar. Even I thought that! However, Mark says this is not so. He actually got cut with a flying broken bottle piece somehow. Not even he really knew how it happened... So after the show, I'm thinking that Hey Mercedes owes this boy bigtime, so i hooked him up with all this merch! And then later I find out twas only a random flying shard. It's OK though. He was pleased. Providence was also great! Did you know that there were contests in these cities where you could win "tickets" to come in and watch Jimmy Eat World soundcheck? It's really not that exciting usually. To tell you the truth, I hate doing soundchecks. I agree that they are vital, especially when playing large venues, but I just find no joy in it. Zero. Zip... I just woke up. Where will I eat today? Why are people bidding on Hey Mercedes pins? A set of two is up to $1.75 plus 50 cents shipping! Hello Two for a buck. Period. And also, we know have that hoodies design in black, as well as blue. Tonight we should be finding out about the album, which means that tomorrow, you should be finding out about the album. Now on to kicking ace in this contest. September 5, 2001
Robert: Found em. They were in the minivan, hidden in the bat caves under our Manhattan hotel. I had to tip the guy $1 just to go fetch them for me... Expect some more blogging tomorrow morning, and perhaps some info on the outlook of our album?!
