dan:

What a great night of bucks basketball ..total ace whoopin'..that was nice..I watched the game at my house while enjoying a fish sandwich and wine..It does go... believe it or not..then mike allen came over with some becks bier which disappeared as the game got older and we discussed plans for the following morning which consisted basically of designing some sort of morning breakfast routine like stopping at a certain place to enjoy coffee or biscuits or even flap jacks..you know the kind of place thats either on the way to work or on the way home..I find myself eyeballing this certain irish bar on my way home every now and then..It'd be a great place to stop for guniess draft or anything irish I think it's called McCarthy's..where was I.? yeah so this morning I load up the car with the orange, head, axe, and accessories..pick up mike cause he's gotta get his duc so we stop at mcdonalds in mequon and eat..I had some flap jacks and mike had a egg & cheese biscuit with 2 small coffees and 2 med orange juices..mm good..dropped him off in the drizzle and opened up the shop here at 10am..waited on 3 customers and the crap keeps piling up..oh well..at least it's raining and ..I assure you..it's nothing but positive energy on this side of the table..

Robert:

The paint is peeling. Feeling like i'm asking for things i don't really want. Take a second and breathe deep. Take ten seconds. Need some circulation. There's only so much that the DBQ can do for me at this point. They are trying desperately to make these 2 hours go faster. A la turk. September plans given a little shake up, yet nothing is very certain, and nothing ever is. Ramble, ramble. Wish i was tubing down the Tuck right now. Anywhere but here. I know it's the only clear way, but today is just a mess up. Shouldn't have stopped dreaming. You know something's wrong when: The time in between alarm-clock-snoozes seems like a blink. The situation just oozes with fatigue, bad weather, and uncomfortable sleep... Maybe i won't be venturing out tonight. Stay inside. Learn to work the saxophone.

Robert:

My chair keeps sinking.

It's official. I'm getting sick. I'm getting that feeling. You know that feeling. The feeling when it's a comfortable temperature inside, yet you're super hot and borderline sweating. When you know the coffee is a bad idea, yet you have a cup anyway, and you were right, you feel much worse. When you just don't want to move unless it's up and out the door and to the apartment and into bed, who cares how old and shoddy it is. Who cares how messy the room is. If i don't make it to the bed, it won't matter cause i'll have all of those work clothes to catch me. Cradle me. Contagious kittens. I just can't drink enough water. I should rip out that water cooler, drag it kicking and screaming to my desk, drink all i want, and eventually stick my head into it. Do you think it's the weather that's bringing me down? Everyone here is coming to see me play at the house of blues. Do you think it's odd that there is four VA shows in chicago? Little do they know... The area between the nose and the mouth - the forbidden zone - can't help but getting sand in there playing in the waves. I hope you are someplace sunny and breezy. Cause the day is dank with a capital D. Drinking water out of an ex-employee's personalized coffee mug. Did he know he was going to quit before he requested this? Actually, if i remember correctly, he never quit, he just stopped coming. (dime). And David B is on repeat, take five. I saw DB last year at Ravinia. He must be in his late 70s and when he spoke, he sounded like he was about to pass out right then and there - very... slowly... sickly... and it was sad really. But when he sat behind the keys. Holy heavens! It was remarkable. Hasn't lost a step. Sounded like a crazed kid. A twenty-something prodigy. You know i always wanted to be at one of those old time fuzzy jazz concerts - on the sidelines - in black and white of course - snapping frantically - eyes closed - focused - one foot pounding - alone in a huge crowd - sweat creeping down - immersed. Swing. Blow. Yeah. Escape! I'm done with this, so done, just have to creak by a little bit more. Playing the part. Somewhat, poorly, i may add. Do you live north of Irving Park? Do you enjoy it? Whilst looking at an apartment in Rogers Park, I was amazed at how my Chicago changes block to block. For instance, Ridge Blvd where my Damen's supposed to be? Who's idea was that? Street names, signs, afraid of movement, afraid of change. But still it's Friday and in 4 hours i'll be home. Home will change soon.

Robert:

Back at the lab, I am constantly developing exciting new ways to stress myself out. It's troubling to say the least, but it helps to get it down on paper... or the next best thing.

I am eating a multi-berry nutrigrain bar. I have reason to believe that Guinness beer is not vegetarian (Any info on this?) Hooray for bouncing checks - Look at em go. I'm starting to realize that i may not be able to afford getting a lush new pad at the moment. If i've got tour scribbled in the planner, i may as well put my precious belongings in deep freeze (aka parents horse) so i can save up some monkey for when i return. I constantly find myself using code words for no reason. I'm doing two jobs today because somebunny called in sick. I am listening to Dave Brubeck yet again - what can i say i'm a sucker for the blue rondo - or take a note: need to change cds in cd folder. Did anyone see the Owls last night? - wanted to go, but i was feeling sick and the weather was a serious drag - could have gotten a lot of OP906 entries. Tomorrow i'm going to a wedding - while in grade school i had 3 best friends - the four of us would do everything together - after 8th grade we all moved away - i see them every so often - tomorrow the last of the three is getting married - maybe i'm just kidding myself, but aren't we so young? Get it? Kid. And to top it all off, the wedding is in Rockford. (At least it's not Terre Haute, Indiana). I'll drink a vodka / red bull for you. I need to stop drinking vodka / red bull. Start drinking martinis. Stop drinking. Oh yeah, and the website, well, i thought i'd give myself the weekend to work out the kinks. Forgot again about Remember That Show. I don't mean to brag but i funking kick ace at VH1 Rock n Roll Jeopardy. Try me. My room was spotless 2 weeks ago. My room is the biggest mess now. You get home and remove your work clothes and say, hey i could wear this shirt again before i wash it, and you put it in a special place, but it always ends up on the floor, and you say the same thing every day, before you collapse on the bed and nap off the drudgery. Stop taking naps. Stop napping until you get a nice new bed. Stop thinking about nice new bed until you pin down nice new horse! Need to renew drivers license. Raise your hand in the air and wave it like you just don't care if you are sick to death of deadbeat bidders! Ain't nobody dope as me, i'm just so fresh, so clean. I slept with a humidifer last night (dime) and woke up underwater. Get up and make things happen. I just finished reading Kiss Me Judas by Will Christopher Baer and liked it a lot. I just started reading Penny Dreadful (sequel of sorts) by Will Christopher Baer and so far i hate it. I am still reading Sometimes a Great Notion, and Infinite Jest, much like Remember that Show and At the Drive In has gone on a temporary hiatus. "Professor Frink, he'll make you laugh, he'll make you think, He likes to run and then the thing with the... person." Checks - bounce wit me, bounce wit me. Y'all come back now, y'hear. Thank you for witnessing my undoing. And if you're lucky, you might learn something before we're through. Picture pages. Oooh woohhooo no baby please don't go. Maybe I'll see you tonight at that show. We'll call him Nate... if it's a boy.

Robert:

214 Billiard Player Song - Shellac

I'm getting sick. I know it. The throat thing happening. Can't talk. Feeling constricted.

May 31, 2001
Robert:

Yeah, I've been busy all day... and the hits keep coming. If all goes well, on July 1 I'll be moving into a room with a private fireplace! What the? Knowing my clumsy history, i'd call that a definite fire hazard. You can't possibly get more fire-hazardous. Boys, have fun in Madison. Tell the gang I said yo.

dan:

ain't nuttin' like mutton..

mark:

I still got nuthin'.

Todd:

Listening to Spacemen 3. Having a cup of Alterra breakfast blend with french vanilla creamer in it. Made by International Delights. Its pretty awesome, all you have to do is pour it in yer cup, fill the rest up with joe and you're all good, it's pre-sweetened and everything. Ahhh, the ease of technology. Who knew?

A big thanks to Dan last night for the pizza and TV. Nothing like watching the Bucks lose in good company. They'll get their revenge tomorrow while I'm on a plane over the midwest.

Last full day for me here in Milwaukee, and it will be spent apartment hunting, doing laundry and packing. I'm going on a little trip this week to California, leaving tomorrow.. Swimming pools and movie stars. Then it's back to the grind in 10 days, back to work, back to looking for a place to live and moving and counting down days until tour. I guess this is my goodbye for a week or so. Fellow bloggers hold down the fort. I'll eat an Astro burger for each one of ya.

Robert:

215 Rock the Casbah - The Clash

Let that raga drop... It looks like the feature that never was, Remember that Show is on temporary hiatus until I can figure out a way to either a)access the list from here at the bump or b)remember to access the list from home on the range... Speaking of home on the range, I've been hard at work on the website design and i've never been happier... Speaking of the range, i have a VERY hot lead for living spaces. Big and cheap. It's in some neighborhood i've never heard of though: Terre Haute, Indiana.

I am listening to Old Ramon. Feels good.

transplanting chives from hell.. If it's not the cruisers I see here at work..it's the orange faced tanners walking to and from their cars..bleh..ach I would tell you how this underwear is a little uncomfortable for me but that's not the question at hand here..the question at hand is how much should I be wiling to pay this fine i got for not stopping at a RR crossing while the lights were flashing..the ticket said $130.00 plus 6 points ya believe that one..so I'm going to the pretrial to chat it up with the prosecuter..just something to think about while I try to survive here in this world..oh and my chives..anyone need chives those little bastages reseed like rabbits
..later..
bucks tip off at 8 central..pizzas and beers..who could axe for mo..?

Robert:

We'd like to introduce you to a new blogger here... In this corner: representing Prague, Czech Republic. Past tour manager for Braid, At the Drive In, Jimmy Eat World, Get Up Kids, (presently) Burning Airlines, and the late great Led Zeppelin. Ask him if he's a photographer. Weighing in at (i'm guessing) 180 pounds. Mr. Paul Drake. Testify.

Robert:

It's time to play REMEMBER THAT SHOW, but for some godforsaken reason, i'm being blocked from the list of past shows! What is wrong with the world today? We'll have to push it back to tomorrow.

When the sun and the wind are just right, I could live anywhere in Chicago. That's how i felt this morning. Of course, it helped that we got some good leads yesterday, and i'm actually going to check out a place at 7 tonight. Things are going to be OK. Relax. Deep breaths.

I'm listening to Aphex Twin. The Richard D James album. In putting it on the mini-speakers, I realize I may be driving my nearby co-workers batty, but i find it's a fitting soundtrack to the high octane day i've got planned. Oh yeah. It's only 10:36 and i've already finished two interviews, answered a bunch of emails, designed a grand hotel for the Bemidji MN waterfront, and read up on Ken Kesey... all on one, albeit hefty, cup of joe.

If anyone asks what i'd like for my birthday, tell them candles. Sweet smelling candles.

Dreamweaver works on the lady LT, but i'm just too far along. Maybe next time.

Robert:

216 Sweetest Thing - U2

Risin' up! Straight to the top! Got the guts! ... Got the glow-ray! For some reason this was in my head as my EL made the transition from Hubbard to Wells.

Todd:

I too share your pain Bob. Spent all day apartment hunting. Ugh.

Now my record player/reciever is making a hellacious hiss type noise. Speaking of which, that was almost the name of our record..

dan:

I'm still trying to catch up from this weekends festivities..nothing exciting..just back to the grind stone..more later..from the comfort of my home..

Robert:

Sick! Just sick.

Robert:

Zach has a really good review of Pearl Harbor. It reinforces the fact that I’d rather spend those 3 hours…

I hate looking for apartments. Hate it. Hate. Hate. H-h-hate it. I swear, I call two places and immediately I’m sick to death of the process. It’s the same thing every time. I find a good looking ad. I call the place. I leave a message. They never call back. Is it too much to be looking for a 2 bedroom apartment with a separate dining room, hardwood floors, and a rooftop deck? Well, probably… Sick of it. Just sick.

Robert:

It’s one of those days. Let’s just hope it doesn’t become one of those nights. My present state of employment has temporarily numbed my writing ability… which is a drag because as usual, there’s so much to write about. For instance, I think I’m going to start a weekly feature here at the wire called “Remember That Show!” whereupon we’ll dig down deep into the hundreds and hundreds of shows played by my previous band, and extract some anecdotes. I got this idea when J just happened to remind us of the Waxie Dargle in Dublin (say that 5 times fast). I think it will be fun. Won’t you join us? We’ll start tomorrow. Maybe I’ll even make a little logo. It’s not like I have anything else to do.

We got a date! And it’s 8/28! The new DVD of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory! (from dvd file) “the disc includes a new documentary "Pure Imagination" from producer JM Kenny, a new screen-specific audio commentary with all five of the Wonka children (Charlie, Veruca Salt, etc.) a "Sing-Along" (not sure if this is an isolated music score or not), the original theatrical featurette, and the theatrical trailer.” I guess I’ll have to pick this puppy up somewheres in Florida. Fire up that DVD player on d’bus. There is one, right?

Speaking of everything else to do, work has continued on the website, and it looks like I may actually get it all square by Thursday’s target date. I’ve learned some more stuff, but I still get that “amateur” feeling when I look through it. But you know what I say? Who gives a flying funk? It’s DIY and substance over style… so there. Two folks have burned Dreamweaver for me (thanks, by the way) and it didn’t work either time! So much for bucking the system.

Well, it looks like I’m a-writing fool now. That didn’t take long.

Did Tappy Tibbons ever reveal what #3 was? The one that drives everyone crazy?

Robert:

217 Secret Heart - Ron Sexsmith

Get back. Get back. Get back to where you once belonged... Listen... do you want to know a secret...

Enjoying a delicious everything bagel and a Fantasia great ace..

Bob! already pre-ordered it before it was out through the wonderful Amazon. Got it delivered to my door two days after it was available, purty shweeht. The best 18.74 I've spent in a while. Mark and I have both been through it and all its glory.. still have to watch it with commentary though.

Good looking out for the Seaweed too by the way..

Looks like the day will be spent pre-game @ Daveys, possibly with a veggie burger in hand among friends. Yummy!

Robert:

218 Squint - Seaweed

MARK! Get off the computer right now and go rent/buy the Requiem for a Dream DVD! Oh boy! It's amazing! (And yes, this means i finally saw the movie, thumbs up, etc etc - especially for Ellen Burstyn! I know I said Bjork should have gotten the Best Actress award, but now... well maybe they should should share it.) It's the director's cut plus it has 2 "making of" documentaries (including one that has extensive footage of The Kronos Quartet), about 10 deleted scenes, an interview with the author of the novel, and 2 commentaries! WELL worth the money you'd shell out, and from the looks of it, it's pretty reasonably priced.

... And this also means I like one more movie that this guy is in. He's the first thing you see on the DVD menus (which are great by the way), so be prepared!

dan:

i think i have a problem..I couldn't help but get excited while waiting for blogger to load...I can't even seem to stay away from it long enough..I've lost all of my friends and nobody talks to me in person anymore..all I have is this computer and my stereo...they talk to me..they know me..thank you...speakers..thank you components...thank you veterans alike..kickin'ass and takin' names..! damn straight..! who you tellin''..
peace out-

Todd:

Happy Memorial Day everyone! Up and at-them. No. No. Up and ATOM.. Yes, right.. Up and AT THEM..

I'm up a little early, sadly sat through The Ladies Man last night, and you know what? It was funny. But I feel so dirty.. You just can't be too judgemental sitting through those SNL flicks. Plus, any movie that has an appearance by this guy, deserves an extra point. I'll always give it a little more of an attempt at liking with him aboard. And where has Billy Dee Williams been for 8 years? Now I know! I figured he was still doing Star Wars conventions as Lando or in some dank third world country still doing commercials for Colt 45.

Heard a strange gurgling ugly van noise in the backyard last night around 12:30 and heard people talking, I thought someone was trying to steal my van for some reason. Who would want it anyways? It would probably breakdown before making it out of the drive. The noise was Paris Texas parking their equally crappy noisy van in our driveway. They are now asleep on the floor. They played in Milwaukee last night and it appears Mark brought them home. Looks like it's going to be a fairly easy day today, think I'll call Dan and see what's what. I'm sure the grill is still a little warm from Saturday..

Heres something I shant be bidding on soon.

219 At Your Convenience - Kind of Like Spitting

Wow. A Pogues song yesterday while Blogger J was cruisin round the Waxie Dargle! Soon, I'll tell you about our adventures there... and at Filthy McNasty's (in London), but for now, i have to go return a car. Late

j.:

It's a lovely day in Dublin. Drove past the Waxy Dargle on the way to the venue and thought rhapsodic thoughts of the Braid/Burning Airlines Europe tour '98. I'll have to stop in for a pint.
Todd: they have good coffee here (here, as in: North of Italy) now. Finally.
The streets are full of football fans in full uniform, but I can't tell who won the big game.
I saw the Book of Kells yesterday at Trinity College. That, and some old printing-press artifacts including one of the original print run of the 1916 Proclamation (as in "English go home") and a vintage copy of the original Papal bull denouncing Martin Luther.
OLD STUFF. I LIKE OLD STUFF.

Todd:

Listening to the Bad Brains. Drinkin' coffee with cat hair in it. Not on purpose mind you..

I saw Pearl Harbor yesterday. Pretty good, just clocking in at under 3 hours(barely) according to the ol' Swatch anyways. It was better than I thought and did'nt seem like three hours. Held my attention pretty well. I'm sure it'll give a good run in the summer movie blockbuster catagory. Not to ruin it for those who have'nt seen it, but Pearl Harbor gets bombed by the Japanese.

Dans place was in full effect last night. Got out of there pretty late. Friends, Dan's family, and at one point- three dogs and an empty keg. Sounds like all of Dan's parties I guess.. I'm still coughing up green phlegm from the smoke machine. Nothing like air guitar-ing to The Fucking Champs in a cloud of smoke. Not much else, gonna chill. It's the sabbath pre-holiday you know..

Misprint. Sorry Bob. Your birthday is on the 14th. Damons is on the 13th of February. Always get those mixed up.

dan:

i wasn't sure if I f8cked the plant up..!what a party..!!! sorry todd..wasn't all the beer gone when you got to the party..good thing the fridge was pizacked to the brizzum..can someone re-fill my coffee ....I'm an actor..I'm acting...
