Robert: todd, you may want to check your birthday calender again there partner... but not like i'd mind getting presents a day early... 220 If I Should Fall From Grace with God - The Pogues Hopefully it won't rain for the big rock fest. Maybe I can tackle Dicky Barrett OP906 style.
Todd: Coffee is flowin'.. Cat is on the desk.. Al Green is waking me up.. My parents have been in town for a few days, forgive me for my non-blog tactics. Thats non-blog. As in Four Non Blogs. Remember them? "What's going on?" was their one hit. A disgrace to music if you ask me. If anyone has this album, please promptly send it to Bob for his birthday.. It's right around the corner(6/13) and he'll appriciate it.. Think I'm going to go sit through the epic Pearl Harbor today with my folks.. give you a full review soon.. May 25, 2001
dan: hello...it's soooooo nice outside..the sun is out..! horay..!! 4 hrs and 15 min left...I've got the tarps (canvas) in the trunk along with a long pole..some stakes, rope..and a fresh potted plant.... see ya-
Robert: Mr. Showbiz has a quick countdown of top 10 drug movies. But they seem to have forgotten the best one. Yum. I loves me some good ebay. Just what the hell is going on here. Why isn't the page loading up? Who is to blame for this? I want answers. As if you needed any more reasons not to eat at McDonalds. Beefy fries. The gall. Remember the Chickenhead McNuggets? Oh this is just sick... If i wasn't leaving here soon, i'd complain more.
Robert: Well, I'll be. You got to hand it to the sharks at SurfWatch. They like to keep things interesting. It's Friday, and not only is it Friday, but it's the Friday before a glorious three day weekend, and not only is it the Friday before a glorious three day weekend, but it is the Friday before a glorious three day weekend that will see me gettin' paid for that hanging day off! Hallelujah... Tuesday will then see me settle into my well worn tried and true duties here at the mill. I know it doesn't seem like the greatest thing that could happen... but if you could see what i've been doing for the past week. Ugh. I don't even want to go there. The worst kind of mind numbing monotony... But that's all over soon. And the wheels of the bus go round and round. I gave the final thumbs up on the EVERYNIGHT FIRE WORKS album artwork last night. It was shipped out last night, and with our luck it should be washing up on an Aleutian Island's shore around noon. I think it turned out great, and if you run into Gregg Bernstein, give him a nice pat on the back for us. Ditto for Chris Strong. You have outdone yourselves, kind sirs. So when will everybody see it? Well, i have a feeling that those and other questions will be answered once i dis- and re-assemble the Lower Wacker Drive disaster-waiting-to-happen that was the Hey Mercedes website. Of course, it is just me again at the helm of the forklifts and piledrivers, so it may end up just as shoddy. But at least there will be pretty new pictures to look at. I'll be back... Come back Blogspot!!
dan: no ones home..tee he he he..what to do..oh i dunno...maybe clean the house for the HUGE party I'm having this saturday...!!!!..It's out on lake michigan..bring yer suites and your suits....::::.... guess I'll go bag some clothes....
Robert: 221 Space Oddity - David Bowie Ground control to Blogger: You better work at work. And that us all. May 24, 2001
dan: I'm gonna go put in a disc ..I wish I had something else to do..I'm sick and tired of being here ..can't I go home yet..! some people work for free..I just work for you.. hey guys..you don't wanna stepda this..dig..?
dan: Let it rain all weekend I don't care..have you seen the ridiculous swirling weather pattern over WI..I hate it so much..!! it looks stupid..those weather patterns are supposed to be over the ocean or something..so let it pour I hope it really rains on saturday..I'm ready..here's what I got : I've got a few canvas tarps to set up..check it out.. one, (1) over the top and one (1) either on the south side or the north side..those tarps will be double locked and properly secured..this things gonna look like a gypsy camp by the time I get done..I should have some make-shift weapons made out of old coat hangers or something.... for props.. lets not forget the tacky lights..(owls & kittens) and the tiki torches..I'm setting up the party early saturday rain or shine so when the beer gets here thats when the party starts right..? maybe if it gets crazy enough I'll start dancing...with the fog machine or course..
Robert: Robert Nanna, foiled again at 8:54 AM: 222 Fast Car - Tracy Chapman They seem to have got me pinned at every turn. I crack the code, they uncrack it. Time for Plan C. I had a very interesting night, and I wish I could have slept more of it off. Dave Brubeck is still kicking it. My jacket smells like smoke and I have been introduced to the seedy underworld of improv. Funny, I went to sleep laughing… What happened? By the way, there was no OP906 capturing at Tower. Line. Long line. Hot! From dvd file: Due on 9/18 is a special edition of An American Werewolf In London, featuring a new 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer and remixed English 5.1 Dolby Digital track, audio commentary with actors David Naughton and Griffin Dunne, additional interviews with director John Landis and Rick Baker, the original promo featurette, never-before-seen storyboards, cast filmographies, production notes, trailers and DVD-ROM features to be announced. Retail is $26.95. And, they’re releasing a “director’s cut” of Blood Simple with audio commentary by the Coens themselves! Hmm. Does this mean we’ll be seeing new souped up DVDs of Fargo? Hudsucker Proxy? Big Lebowski? And what about my favorite CB movie, Barton Fink?! Give me something! Working in two speeds. Slow and stop.
j.: Welsh skate culture: well worth checking out. Perhaps from a comfortable distance ... say, from behind a plexiglass screen. But well worth checking out.
Todd: Have'nt been to DVD file in awhile. Hello! So much good stuff! Thank God Santa did'nt bring me 'Waiting for Guffman' for Christmas this year like I asked! Its being re-released with commentary. Also, the 'Benny Hill: Golden Greats'. Holy cow! 2 discs and six hours of the best of! It never ends.. The sun is coming out in Milwaukee.. about time... All of you Tortoise fans, curious of how they got their start, should bid on this record. You wont believe how many bands where influenced by this album. You won't be dissapointed either, it's a rare find..
Todd: Listening to Death Cab. The coffee is flowin'. My parents will be visiting today.. Bob you really know how to push my buttons don't you? For those of you who don't know, I was bidding on an American Werewolf in London DVD off an on awhile ago.. 50 bucks for an average out of print DVD is too much. People are even selling used copies through Amazon for 99.00? I got it on VHS but who would'nt want it on such a terrific format? I'm glad to see such a awesome film making it back even better than ever. God bless John Landis and the crew. Thanks for the tip Bob, my pre-order will go in today. The stitches count is 14. More than I anticipated.. God bless you Justin. Good luck shaving! May 23, 2001
Todd: Just got back from the Milwaukee skatepark, gaurantee i'll be sore as heck tomorrow. Actually, I just got back from St. Marys Hospital, where I skated home to my house, leaving Dan to tend to Cactus Club Justin who needs 4 or 5 stitches in his chin. He'll be alright folks. I told him to be aware of that bowl, it'll sneak up on you.. us old men got to be careful. Planning on getting him to go out later and soothe his pain with a vodka ginger ale. I'll keep you filled in on his status. 'Jim' the guy downstairs is bumping Yello's -Oh Yeah you might remember it from Ferris Buellers Day Off, before that it was Tears for Fears with their smash hit Shout. It's usually in the same vein as the above. Nothing like being woken up on a Sunday morning by Aimee Mann and the rest of Til Tuesday busting out Voices Carry. Ugh.. Keep it down already!! It's a school night!
Robert: I’m grooving to “Blue Rondo a la Turk.” Grooving. The monotony of work just fades away when you tune in to some rocking licks in 7/8. Hot! I will now transcribe my favoritest part for you: Ba-da-da-da-da-da-da, ba-da-da-da-da-da-da, ba-da-da-da-da-da-da, ba-da-da, ba-da-da, ba-da-da…. Hey I’m just happy to be here. Oh yeah, your blog is useless to me here at work if the word “Ass” is in the title. I’m sorry about that. You should edit like I do. Ever though of calling it Ace Fun? I feel for all the blogspot blogs. I know the feeling. Lucky for me, that feeling has been remedied. I wish I knew something that could help. Dan. I’m glad you like the mug. Sure, I guess you could use it for coffee at work, if you want to go that route. A co-worker just asked if we were going to be as big as the Dave Matthews Band! I said, no, it’s always just going to be 4 of us. You see? I’m on the upswing already!
Robert: Robert Nanna Bachman-Turner Overide at 11:37 AM (but not really since J. House helped me crack the code. Har har.) Hungry? Drink coffee. Well, now I have access to Glue Factory, but it’s still giving Blogger the old thumbs down. Being a stubborn ol bastage, I hereby refuse to give the issue any more blog time whatsoever. It is a nuisance that I am currently stepping around. So for the last time, what this means: expect my posts to occassionally disappear and reappear in odd formats. Expect no post to be final until the evening, when Big Brother Bully isn’t an issue. Expect it to snow in June. And lastly, realize that nighttime posts by me, may actually have been written during the work day… I’ll specify a time at the beginning of each post. You’d think reading a weblog wouldn’t involve so much work. It shouldn’t. So for now, you can think of it as a little game. Try and catch the post. (Keep in mind, it’s not Blogger with the major malfunction… for a change. What? Who said that?) Enough already with bliz-blaz and flim-flam! Get to the bloody point! You can ask Damon. I’m on the downswing. I’m plunging headfirst into the darker side of Gemini… but I’m already making progress to worm my way right out of it. I’ve realized (with the help of the funniest man in chicago) that all of my non-work related hobbies somehow involve me being alone, reclusive. Now, for those of you that know the wonders of the OP906 machine, it is a direct ploy to combat my inherent shyness. (You wouldn’t think so, huh?) But that only really comforts when I’m at work, you see? Here at home, I’ve temporarily passed the OP906 baton to TFMIC, who is hopefully right now recruiting one Rivers Cuomo, granted he hasn’t already been shunned for asking for an autograph on his Pinkerton LP. (Don’t blow this one for us, Gene!) So starting right now, I will make a conscious effort. I’ll be at the Dismemberment Plan show this weekend. (They’ve been taken already). I also will be going to the Red House Painters show coming up. It’s certain to be better than the Mark Kozelek show I saw on 4/7… Oh, I didn’t tell you about that? Well, it will all be revealed in the tourblog coming 6/1 (or so … I never work without a net!)… A redesign of the website. A nice reclusive undertaking. Woo. Hoo. Can’t. Wait. Speaking of witches, tomorrow, I’ll be casting all of the old website stuff into a giant cauldron full of eye of newt and whatnot, resting on a blazing fire… So if there’s something there that you’ve been putting off making your desktop wallpaper (Mark’s photobooth picture, for example), then you might want to do it now, you lazy ace procrastinator! I’m listening to The Dave Brubeck Quartet. (note from two days ago heeded well) I’m about to go get coffee #2. (note from top of post heeded well) and ninthly, I’m going to get back to the “bad” work. (entire point of blog heeded poorly)
dan: made a trip to the bank folded some sheets and pillow cases had 2 eggs over medium with toast (wheat) with smuckers grape jelly, glass of milk and a shot of johnny walker red..so now I'm ready..drive to work with a couple fuzz buster cars..they were going too fast for my old age..filled up with gace at the mobil, walked inside and grabbed a forest air freshner, picked up some choc.milk and some mints..got to work and low and behold I've got a package..How exciting!!! I love getting stuff..and now I must thank bob for the gift of the blogger mug..it'll be perfect for those cold mornings or nights when I need to get my cocco ON or coffee..wednesday..almost there..tonight I'm gonna start cleaning the house for the party..bathrooms first AArrrggghh... argh.? euhhhah..whatever..it's always fun to party when you're cleaning..right..or cutting the lawn with a beer ..you know america..chicken pot pies..grilling out.. more rain today..good lets get it out of our system before my par teh..!!! peace out-
Todd: Just making sure! With Bobs doubtfulness I figured a test would be in order. It's cold and overcast again in Milwaukee, what is up? Its May already! Can't we get two days of sun in a row? Lately, maybe it's because I have'nt been working and all of my errands post-tour/recording are getting caught up but I'm really excited to practice again and play the recently record gems and move onto new stuff.. maybe it's just the coffee talking. I'm also getting excited to listen to the final mastered version of our record. We are doing that tomorrow. I'm also considering going back to my hell-hole job for a few weeks in June before we go on tour, am I crazy?? Hold on.. Taking off Astral Weeks putting on the Who. Well, time to go into the 'rain room' (as Dan would say) and go get some stuff done in the overcast outdoors.. May 22, 2001
dan: I am at mike allens house..blogging on his sweet kick-ass totally clean-ass iBook..this thing feels like it's kept in a hospital or something..I feel dirty..I just got back from west bend... like i said earlier my mom and sister wanted to go out for a couple..and here I am finally.. now mike and I are going to the 'why-not'for a night capper..just turned on dave letterman though waiting for miquel...more later..tomorrow..good night folks..
Robert: Robert Nanna: 10:54 AM I don’t know what in the sam hell is going on up in here. Is it just randomly picking websites and blocking me from them? Now, along with Blogger, I’m no longer allowed to go to Glue Factory (sorry Kevin). Luckliy I’ve got my override system in place. Unfortunately, this means that when one of my compadres blogs, this post will disappear, but that’s alright, cause I’m saving them all… for later posting. OP906 update: I already got Brian Bell, now tomorrow it’s all Rivers. Do you want to buy the world’s smallest Hey Mercedes shirt? (Sorry auction's over. Blame Blogger.) What about all of you Peters and Beckys? More to come.
dan: I just found the camp beat stick...is it wrong for me to keep it within' arms reach here at work... I don't think so..I'm tired..too much work..
dan: now, the 2 cd's i was listening to are done and it's really quiet in here..I can't believe it's not even 2 o'clock yet..my god is today going by slow..I just had a customer come in though to ship out some models and he said 'thanks boss'..I thought that was nice..and he was 3 times bigger than me with a baseball cap on a mullet and some ..hold on a second.it figures as soon as I sit down to type a lengthy message I get busy..see ya
mark: Last night was pretty weird.Maria(a woman I havenever met before)read my palm, and was dead on.I mean super duper dead on! I was sitting there laughing and slowly,as the words sunk in,I got a little ...you know...blublsublusda.Creepy.At least I got some good news.I wish I could share with you all,but that might just jinx it.I'm getting too superstisious for my own good.Don't get me started about my REALLY superstisious friends(You know who you are)I'm talking blowing on and kissing fingers at certain times of the day,no feet on the floor of a car over railroad tracks, all kinds of goofy stuff. If I keep this up,I'll be one of those creepy old guys who carry a shovel around all the time, and have 200 cats.To quote Moe(of Moe's Bar)" I'm gonna die old, ugly, lonely and dead" You said it brother.
dan: so, I jump ship in tibet...no really.. feeling amazingly good today, It mustofbeen the gallons of water I consumed before the contamination of the liver with this and this with a lime of course..we met mark and todd at the landmark around 10pm..It was really nice cause it was monday so there wasn't that many people out..todd and mark both got there palms read by my friend maria so they were freaked out a little..it's all good though..so we sat around and drank till midnight and went home..exciting hey..? I got this great book from TB it's called "the worst-case scenerio survival hand book" its packed with things like, how to take a punch, how to perform a fast 180-degree turn with your car, and how to deliver a baby in a taxi cab, you know the usual stuff..how to escape from quicksand, wrestle an alligator, break down a door, and land a plane...thanks todd..thanks to this gal for the props on your page..and I wanna thank my mom..and the academy also ..blah blah blah...this saturday party at my place..tacky lights, tarps and whipits..what else do you want..? a live band..? babyback ribs.? not dogs..? it's gonna be on..remind me to run my speaker wire outside to the deck.. May 21, 2001
Robert: 225 Don't Look Back in Anger - Oasis Blocked from the blog. How depressing. It's a curious thing really. How is it possible that it worked all day, and then come 3:00 or so, oops you can't go to this website anymore, sorry. How does the Big Brother Machine know what websites are threatening? If anything, access to the blog, increases my productivity. It helps me resist becoming a flatline automoton, a robot for the man, wax on wax off all day - No way. T'aint going to happen. I'm not wasting any time at all, especially with this project i'm spearheading... but whatever. It's not going to stop me from blogging. I've got plans. D'dan-dan, I hope your birthday night is shaping up swell with some tastykake. If i remember correctly, I actually went to Bennihana once for my birthday, and their "goodie" for the lucky contestant was this little pineapple dish. And nobody sang! It was good but... Call me old fashioned, but I like a nice junk-foody cake with frosting and candles. Yum. Go Dan! It's your birthday! I get home from work and the first thing I do is take off my glasses (needed for reading, computing, etc.). Once that happens, I usually lay down to rest my eyes. I'm in front of a damn computer all day, and lately, i'm working with pages and pages of numbers in small text... Today, when I laid down, I fell asleep. I wasn't even tired really, just sick of reading. This is annoying because I've got a lot of stuff to work on, but it all involves sitting right back down in front of the computer! Man oh man. I think in a little while, I'm going to go do some laundry or something. Get away. Get out. Get on up.
dan: I was hoping to go all day today without these dumb-ass cruisers..oh how I hate the pick-ups..I swear I'm gonna bring my cb to work just to get a rise outta these guys..like breaker breaker..nice piece of shit your driving whiteboy..! it makes a lot of noise but doesn't look like it's going any faster..sorry I didn't mean to be mean on my birthday..It's been crazy at work today..italy here japan there....,this needs to go out today pronto..um excuse me I'm with a customer right now.. the sun is coming out just as I'm getting out of work how perfect is that..thank you sun..get this folks benihanas is CLOSED for a private party tonight..what a bummer..I guess I'll just have to meet everybody at Albenese's for some kick ass family style italian..Love that place..great house wine too...I better drink a crap load of water before I start suckin' down that vampire blood....'come on dan, be one of us.' well I'm gonna go get some more water..maybe something exciting will happen tonight...who knows...
Todd: Just got back from the Post Office and running some errands. Listening to the new Guided By Voices. Definately not as good as the last record, or my favoritest most recent GBV release the "Hold on Hope" EP from 2000. Pretty good record though, I'm seldom dissapointed with GBV. Track 7 is on now, called "Want one?" and I swear it sounds like Paul Stanley doing the "Oooh oohs", I'm not kidding. There are a lot of guest appearences on the record, was he overlooked and not credited? Inquiry minds want to know.. My cat is driving me nuts today. He's meowing and all over me, and up in my 'shit'. I'm covered in hair and he keeps trying to lay on the keyboard. He'll walk around it knock stuff off of my already crowded desk and then try to find a 'space' to laydown. I think that there are more comfortable places to lay in the house, really. Thats what's weird about cats.. you got a houseful of comfy furniture and plenty of space, and they lay in the box to small for their fat ass thats full of books and tacks and other uncomfortable objects. Weird..
dan: WOW...Thanks to everyone who emailed me..to wish me a happy birthday..It made me feel all warm and fuzzy..I didn't think anyone would know but..thanks again..I'm going to benny hannas japanese steak house tonight and I can't wait...It's monday..the only thing really exciting is me having a birthday today.. thank god for that, otherwise this gray rainy day would've gotten the best of me...where's my steak.? sense eh..?
Robert: Numb. N'numb-numb-numb. N-n-n-n-numb numby numb numb. That's how i've been feeling lately here. The ATM wasn't working downstairs, so i was left with the $5 in my pocket to get a veggie sandwich at the downstairs bakery. The line was too long so i opted for the dreaded veggie burger and fries from Sam's Grill down the street. They chinced on the fries. And that my friends, is the most exciting bit of news yet today. I sense another "bad song deconstruction" waiting in the wings.
Todd: First of all, let's get this out of the way.. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAN! Alrighty! Got woken up today buy someone 'circular-sawing' something outside my window near my house. I've been sleeping with the window open lately at nights, I like the cool air and Dack likes to hang out in the window anyways. Whirrrrrrrr-riiiiieee! I know that saw sound well, the high-pitched spinning-before-the-cut starts.. My dad had one and I used to build my fair share of launch ramps and assorted death traps with it and his plethora of other assorted tools when I was a kid. I remember taping 3" nails together in an "X" shape with electrical tape then filing down the tips with his electrical grinder to make a crude-neanderthal-ish 'chinese-star', that was about 4th grade. We could never really afford real ones, no real nun-chucks or chinese stars in my life until I could save the money. My parents where pretty harsh about the allowance for me and my older brother. You had to really stretch it, and thats hard when there was a Joust and Tron game down at the local corner store.. Somehow I managed to get a butterfly knife every summer though through begging or sheer luck at the local flea market, later to be left stuck in a tree or in the dirt somewhere carelessly for some other lucky kid to find.. Now someone is hammering outside... Anyways, time to start a busy day, got to get to the Post Office before it gets to crowded.
Robert: EVERYBODY - stop what you're doing and EMAIL DAN. It's his birthday today! Woohoo! Ask him how it feels to be 43!
Robert: Again, I forgot the song list at home. You'll have to forgive me. I'm not exactly back in the swing of getting up this early. I'm sure it will all come back to me in no time... So for now, the song is going to be "Imitation of LIfe" by R.E.M. There's no way that this number could have possibly made the countdown cause it just came out last week, but its still a damn catchy little thing... it surely would have made the list for 2002. (By the way, there will be no list for 2002. I've got bigger and better and more obsessive (OP906) plans). That's sugarcane, that tasted good. (I will agree that some of the lyrics are awful, though. Culprit #1: "You are the greatest thing. The greatest thing since bread came sliced." Oh my.) I think I may have been offended by some passing pigeon because there was an odd substance suddenly on my jacket. I noticed it while i was on the train. As you may or may not know, in my eyes, in the animal world, pigeons are a few notches under pond scum. Is pond scum alive? Well, whatever. I can't stand the filthy varmints... and they got me. When i wasn't looking it. But i'll strike back. When they least expect it... Let me drink my coffee. ... and apparently we're playing the krazyfest. I don't know what day, but i have a sneaking suspicion this will involve a long one day haul from Minneapolis to Louisville. I call top bunk. Bob, if you are reading this: PACK A RADIO FOR WORK TOMORROW! And bring some good CD's. May 20, 2001
Todd: What a busy busy day! And it all started at 8:35 am, ugh.. Thats no time to rise, not on the sabbath anyways.. We went down to Chicago today to get some photos done with Mr. Chris Strong. Success! I think we got some keepers folks! After Bob splitting after the shoot to hang out with his family for his sisters birthday, the three of us ended our Chicago day with a wonderful dinner @ Zoom in Wicker Park with friend and booking agent Miss Susanne. Made it back into Milwaukee just in time to make an ice cream run and get back to Damons for the new episode of 'Bands on the Run'. Oh yeah! Another heated episode featuring our heroes Flickerstick. Not much more to report, I'm pretty exhausted after sleeping little last night and rising early, the wonderful NYMB rocked the Cactus Club yesterday and it ended being a fairly looooong night if you-know-what-I-mean.. Think I'll call it an early night tonight though.. Just sit back, pet the cat, let the sleepy time tea and Mazzy Star kick in and get a good nights rest.. Zzzzzzz..
dan: I haven't shaved in a few days..like I can grow a bread anyway but,...he he that was funny...I just got back from a rondezvous..rondevous..sp..? It's all about wearing buck skins and knifes..and swords..I was a buck skinner..seriously..I'm wearing the same buckskins I wore when I played my senior year talent show with compound red..It's funny cause..well you know..it's true..so I have this sunburn around my neck kinda like when you wear a t-shirt and you're sunburned around your neck...really trailer park looking..I kinda like it..lemme go get another pabste..or was it olde style..?things must be getting fancy around here when I use the olde french spelling..?..hey..?..It's also VerY good to see all of the fellow bloggers falling in...peace out- xxoo
Robert: J and Mark - don't kid yourselves. Don't be blaming me. You love the blog. You are sleeping. You do not want to believe. Now we just have to get Paul D to share some stories up here. I know for a fact that he's got billions of em. Anyhow, let everyone know over there that we'll see them next year... of course when it's warm! ... We're taking some more photos today once the boys decide to drop by. They're only a half hour late now...
Robert: 226 Smothered in Hugs - Guided By Voices It's official. Will Ferrell is the lone funny person on SNL. His maraca shaking on "Island in the Sun" saved the show. Personally, i was expecting another Bruce Dickinson sketch. But no dice. Is your name Peter? Becky? You may want to take a look. |
